Elle's review: Ten belles Upstairs at The Ten Bells

If you're anything like me, your new years resolutions were a list of all the places you have to eat in 2013. One for your list, recently crossed off mine is Upstairs @ Ten Bells in Shoreditch but I'm guaranteed to be back soon. The neighbouring St. John is of course lovely, but if you're not in the mood for offal (so surely that's most of the time), but you are feeling meat lust a little like Henry VIII (also most of the time in January no?), here's your baby. I ate there with 10 of my oldest, bestest friends. Lunch stretched into a long afternoon of eating, drinking and merriment. 

                 

We ate:


Buttermilk Fried Pheasant & Pine Salt
Cayenne & Cheddar Puffs
Mussels and creamy cabbage

Chestnut and Truffle Soup, Brussels Sprouts & Chanterelles

or (we substituted this word with a much better one: AND... yeah)

Treacle Cured Smoked Salmon, Kohlrabi & Chervil

Hake, Cauliflower & Brown Shrimp

Warm Chocolate Pave, Ice Cream & Pecans

Caravan Coffee & Petit Four

Not a combination I've had before or would have thought of myself but absolutely dreamy.

I love making my own cheese straws. Friends have mocked me in the past but so what if it's a little 90s - with the addition of rosemary and rock salt you can't go wrong.
This was particularly good: Chestnut and truffle are the perfect match


Le Salmon. Such pretty presentation.
Hakingly good (I really am very sorry)
Roast old spot pork belly - perfect blend of savoury and sweet, heavy and light. 
Yeah yeah, I forgot to take a photograph at the start because I was over excited. This always seems to happen.
The company wasn't bad either... 


...Neither were the staff (hi boys).
