Flo's boozy Christmas cake: so much brandy, so little time!

'Hmmm, booze and children in the same post'you ask? Well, Elle Arthur and I have been making this cake before we could even read, just look at Arthur's face! We just didn't put as much brandy in it then... 

It might be about 2 months away but if you want a deliciously boozy Christmas, you had better start getting ready now. The recipe is from the 1861 edition of Mrs Beeton and really does make a superior Christmas cake. 

To get your cake as steeped in brandy as possible you need to make it a few months ahead and pour a tablespoon or so of brandy into little holes you make in it each week. That is why now is the time to make it. 

Here a link to the recipe from Mrs Beeton, it  can last for months and months... Not that it is ever unbeaten for that long!

I will post the icing instructions and pictures at the correct time to ice the cake - mid December...
