In these austere times you can't be mischievous with money all the time, but these monthly mini sprees are the perfect antidote to recession gloom... They may be expensive for what they are, i.e. not exactly life's necessities, but for the quality and luxurious feeling of pure indulgence, they are totally worth it.
This post is my excuse to splurge and I hope it encourages a few of you to treat yourselves too.
Each month I will travel all over London to select the best, seasonally-inspired cheese from La Fromagerie in Marylebone, wine from the Finborough Wine Cafe in West Brompton, and chocolate from Fortnum and Mason in Piccadilly.
UPDATE: I AM VERY SORRY TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE FINBOROUGH WINE CAFE AND THE SUMMERTOWN WINE CAFE CLOSED ON SEPTEMBER 21ST
and September goes to...
1. La Fromagerie's Charolais from Burgundy - a hard textured, crumbly goats cheese with a rich, mature and nutty goaty flavour (only for those who like a bit of serious goat)
2. Finborough's Château Lestrille Capmartin Bordeaux Blanc 2010, rich, waxy, lightly oaked, it complements the nuttiness of the cheese. Shop price £13.50 (we bought over 6 total so paid £11.50)
